Therapies Under Conservative Care

December 03, 20247 min read

An Examination of Alternative Healthcare Options

After an auto accident, individuals often suffer from a range of injuries, including whiplash, muscle strains, and joint misalignments. While traditional medical treatments such as medication and surgery are commonly prescribed, an increasing number of people are turning to alternative chiropractic care as part of a conservative treatment plan. These approaches not only focus on pain relief but also on restoring mobility, promoting healing, and improving overall well-being without invasive procedures.

On this episode of Not Another TV Lawyer, Dr. Rita Hanania, DC, shares her personal and professional experience with the alternative therapies that her Chiropractic practices provide in Jacksonville, Florida. Unlike traditional emergency rooms where patients often experience long waits only to receive brief consultations and prescriptions, Dr. Rita provides a more involved treatment plan. As she describes, “We give patients a lot of attention during their appointments, especially after their auto injuries... helping them with their day-to-day goals and improving their mobility."

Understanding Alternative Therapies within Conservative Treatment Plans

What is a Conservative Treatment Plan?

When recovering from injuries, particularly those sustained in auto accidents, many individuals and healthcare providers prioritize conservative treatment plans. These plans focus on non-invasive, low-risk methods to manage pain, promote healing, and restore function. Rather than resorting immediately to surgical interventions or heavy medications, conservative care employs therapies like chiropractic adjustments, physical therapy, acupuncture, and dry needling. This approach aims to encourage the body’s natural healing processes while minimizing potential side effects. For those seeking effective, holistic recovery options, conservative treatment plans provide a safe and comprehensive pathway to wellness.

In this article, we’ll explore the benefits of alternative chiropractic care after an auto accident and highlight some effective treatments like acupuncture and dry needling.

1. Holistic Healing Approach

Chiropractic care, by nature, focuses on treating the body as a whole rather than just addressing specific symptoms. Chiropractors aim to correct misalignments in the spine, promote proper nervous system function, and enhance the body's natural healing processes. Holistic healing helps the body recover more efficiently after traumatic injuries, reducing long-term complications.

By focusing on the root causes of pain and dysfunction rather than merely masking symptoms with medication, chiropractic care offers a natural and long-term solution for injury recovery.

2. Non-Invasive Pain Relief

One of the key advantages of chiropractic care is that it offers non-invasive pain relief. For many, the thought of surgery or heavy reliance on medications is daunting. Chiropractic adjustments, along with complementary treatments like acupuncture, provide relief without the risks associated with more invasive interventions.

By gently realigning the spine and joints, chiropractors can reduce inflammation, relieve muscle tension, and improve range of motion, all of which contribute to effective pain management. In addition to chiropractic care, Dr. Rita and her colleagues employ a comprehensive suite of services to reduce pain to include physical therapy, massage therapy, and acupuncture.

3. Types of Alternative Chiropractic Treatments

Many chiropractic offices now offer a variety of alternative treatments that complement spinal adjustments. Two popular methods, particularly after auto accident injuries, are acupuncture and dry needling. Dr. Rita emphasizes the importance of these treatments, explaining, “Acupuncture is a very common word that people use easily, but dry needling is also a big part of the practice...to help alleviate a lot of muscle tension and inflammation."

Acupuncture

Acupuncture is a traditional Chinese medicine practice that involves the insertion of thin needles into specific points on the body. This treatment helps to stimulate the body’s energy flow, or Qi, and has been shown to reduce pain, enhance blood circulation, and promote healing. For individuals recovering from auto accident injuries, acupuncture can target areas of pain, reduce muscle tightness, and help alleviate chronic discomfort.

Acupuncture is especially useful for whiplash-related neck pain, headaches, and soft tissue injuries. It provides a drug-free approach to managing discomfort and promoting relaxation.

Dry Needling

Dry needling, while similar in technique to acupuncture, has a different therapeutic focus. It is used primarily to target trigger points or “knots” in the muscles that cause pain and restrict movement. After an auto accident, muscles can become tense or injured, and dry needling helps to release these muscle knots, restoring flexibility and reducing pain.

Dry needling has proven beneficial for muscle stiffnesschronic pain, and joint issues that arise after an accident, helping individuals regain full mobility faster.

4. Prevents Long-Term Complications

When injuries go untreated or are only partially addressed, they can lead to chronic pain and mobility issues later on. Alternative chiropractic care takes a preventative approach, reducing the risk of long-term complications by addressing problems early. Chiropractic adjustments combined with acupuncture and dry needling can help keep muscles relaxed, joints aligned, and the nervous system functioning properly, thus preventing future flare-ups.

Beyond medical treatment, Dr. Rita's practices offer other benefits to patients such as instructional classes and yoga sessions to prevent long-term complications. Acknowledging this aspect, Chris Shakib noted: “Your practice is more of a community resource for healthcare.”

5. Personalized Care Plans

Each auto accident is unique, and so are the resulting injuries. One of the significant benefits of chiropractic care is that it offers personalized treatment plans. Chiropractors assess your injury comprehensively and develop a custom plan that may include adjustments, physical therapy, acupuncture, dry needling, and other modalities.

This tailored approach ensures that every aspect of your injury is addressed, enhancing your overall recovery.

Final Thoughts

Recovering from an auto accident can be a long and painful journey, but with the help of alternative chiropractic care, healing can be more effective and less invasive. Treatments like acupuncture and dry needling provide natural, drug-free options for pain relief and muscle recovery, helping patients regain their strength and mobility. By focusing on holistic healing, chiropractic care offers a comprehensive solution to help you recover quickly and safely after an accident.

If you've been injured in an auto accident, consider consulting with a chiropractor like Dr. Rita Hanania to explore how alternative treatments can be incorporated into your conservative care plan for optimal recovery.

Introducing the Hosts

Christopher Shakib, ESQ.

Chris began his career fighting for victims’ rights as a state prosecutor of violent criminals. From 1992 to 1996, he prosecuted bad guys and witnessed the life-long harm criminals inflicted on their victims, because they made a conscious decision to do wrong, often for financial gain. Since then, he’s transferred that passion for holding bad guys accountable and helping victims to the civil justice system.

As a partner at Terrell • Hogan, Chris advocates for those injured or killed by medical malpractice – including women injured in an alleged breast implant warranty scheme – defective drugs, defective medical devices, pharmacy negligence and consumer products. He is driven to stop companies and practitioners from putting profits over people, especially when they knowingly provide a product or service that hurts consumers or falls below industry standards. He also represents victims of defective consumer products, commercial truck accidents and motor vehicle crashes.

Chris is married to Jaime Lee Shakib and is the proud father of three children: Ashley, Evan, and Stella-Jaymes. An avid surfer, runner, and amateur boxer, he considers the mountains of Western North Carolina his second home.
